Privacy Policy

Your data,
on your terms

Uinta Watch collects the bare minimum — only what you choose to submit — and uses it solely to support the public sensing map and wildfire research.

Effective date: August 30, 2026

1. Information the app collects

The App collects the following information, only when you choose to provide it:

  • Location. When you use the Report feature, the App requests your device's precise location (with your permission) so your fire or smoke report can be associated with the place you observed it. Location is accessed only when you actively submit a report. The sensor map does not track or store your location.
  • Photos. If you attach a photo to a report, the image you choose is included with your submission. The App never accesses your photo library except when you explicitly pick an image.
  • Report content. The text description you type when submitting a report.

The App does not collect your name, email address, device identifiers, advertising identifiers, or any other personal information. It has no account system, no in-app purchases, no advertising, and no third-party analytics.

2. How the information is used

Information you submit is used solely to:

  • Display your report (location, description, and optional photo) on the public sensing map and research record;
  • Improve and operate the App's services.

3. Sharing of information

We do not sell, rent, or share your information with third parties for advertising, marketing, or tracking purposes. Submitted reports may be visible to other users of the service and to research partners as part of the project's public research record.

4. Data retention

Report submissions are retained indefinitely to support ongoing wildfire research and the long-term operation of the project. Reports may be reviewed for patterns over time to improve sensing research and to better understand fire risk in the Uinta Basin.

5. Your choices

You can control App permissions at any time through your device settings:

  • Location, Camera, and Photo Library permissions can be granted or revoked inSettings → Privacy & Security, or per-app under Settings → Uinta Watch.
  • You may stop using the App and delete it at any time.

6. Children's privacy

The App is a general-audience utility and does not knowingly collect information from children under 13.

7. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The latest version will always be available at this URL, with the effective date shown above.

The short version

There are no accounts, no ads, and no analytics.

We only see what you submit through the Report feature — and only because you chose to share it.

Your location is used just for the report, never tracked on the sensor map.
